Charleston, SC --- ASCEND Foundation, a locally-based nonprofit organization will be celebrating their five year anniversary on March 15, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will take place at the Historic Rice Mill Building at City Marina in downtown Charleston. The event’s theme is “Imagine a World without Cancer” and will feature the East Coast Party Band and a silent auction. Tickets are $100 per person or $1000 for a table of 10. They can be purchased by calling (843) 225-4055. All proceeds benefit ASCEND’s mission to make ending cancer a national priority and will support ASCEND’s newest initiative, Chemo Duck, an innovative and unique program that provides optimum communication and education for children who have cancer through play therapy.

Since ASCEND started in 2001, it has established a network of dedicated volunteers, a committed board of local and national advocates, and worked on and supported a wide variety of cancer prevention initiatives.

“We are excited to celebrate our five-year anniversary,” says Russ Pritchard, chairman of the board. “ASCEND has a very powerful message that stems from an unfortunate story and we are all committed to spending the next five, 10 or 50 years, however long it takes, doing what we can to spread that message on behalf of Anne and everyone ever touched by cancer.”

ASCEND, which stands for Anne Scandalios Cancer Ends Now Directive, was formed in 2001 as the result of Anne Scandalios’ battle against breast cancer. Although Anne lost her battle with cancer, the ASCEND Foundation through Anne’s spirit continues her mission to make ending cancer a national priority. ASCEND focuses its efforts on connecting those touched by cancer and empowering them to make a difference by speaking up against cancer.
