J. Russ Pritchard, Jr., President
a native South Carolinian born in 1961, is the founder and President of Audio Warehouse Inc., which is a 17year old home entertainment and automation design and installation firm located in Charleston. Having lost both parents to cancer, now a cancer survivor himself and a personal friend of Anne Scandalios, Russ realizes the importance of educating the public of the alarming trend of cancer in our society. With the support of his wife, Liza, Russ is proud to serve ASCEND and it’s mission in the fight against cancer.
Cherie Blackburn, Vice President

Michael D. O’Shaughnessy, Treasurer
Chairman of Prudential Carolina Real Estate in Charleston, S.C. Michael began his real estate career in 1977 under the direction of his father, Dave O’Shaughnessy, who founded O’Shaughnessy Real Estate in April, 1969. He was in sales until his father’s illness in September, 1984, and subsequent death in April, 1985, at which time he began his management career with the company. Michael graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.S. in Marine Biology. Prior to his career in real estate he was a shrimper and crabber. Mr. O’Shaughnessy graduated from Bishop England High School and The College of Charleston. He and his wife, Millie, have three daughters, Callie, Holly and Maggie. In his leisure time Michael enjoys surfing, snowboarding, boating, reading and most of all spending time on Snake Island. As well as serving on the board of ASCEND, Michael is also on the Advisory Board of Life Management center.
Patty Scarafile, Secretary
Patty entered the real estate industry in 1977 as a sales associate. She directed the new agent training program, managed branch offices, and in 1985 was named vice president. In 1999 with the merger of Coldwell Banker O’Shaughnessy Real Estate and Prudential Carolina Real Estate, she became CEO and President. A graduate of the College of Charleston, with a BS in English, Patty taught school for 3 years prior to her real estate career. She and her husband, Vito, have four children. Michelle and Matthew are sales associates with the company; Michael is an attorney; and 8 year old Mishka is in second grade. Patty is a member of the Charleston Trident Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is periodically involved in activities to promote a cure for cancer. Last fall she participated in the Avon 3 day, 60 mile walk and fundraiser in Atlanta. In her leisure time, she enjoys entertaining, reading, traveling, snow skiing and walking on the beach.
David Stahl
has been Music Director and Conductor of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra since 1984. He has also concurrently served as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Bavarian Taatsheateram Baertnerplatz in Munich where he conducts up to 50 performances a year. He has guest conducted over 90 orchestra and opera companies all over the world including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, Bavarian State Opera and the Orchestras of Dresden, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Berlin. He was an assistant of Leonard Bernstein at the New York Philharmonic and in Europe and he conducted West Side Story on Broadway. He is married to Karen Stahl, a cancer survivor, and they have three children, Byron, Anna and Sonya.
Liz Waters
is a certified elementary school teacher with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She resides in Rumson, N.J. with her husband, Leighton and their two children. In August of 2000, her life was changed forever when she met and quickly befriended Annie Scandalios.
Roxanne Koteles
Liz Alecci, Executive Director
Prior to joining ASCEND, Alecci worked in New York City for NASCAR, Inc. as its Corporate Marketing Manager. She was responsible for creating and managing sponsorship programs for current and prospective advertisers. In addition, Alecci spearheaded the creation and development of the corporate sales collateral for NASCAR. A major project included producing the NASCAR brand’s 2003 corporate sales video and brochure. Alecci was instrumental in managing projects for a number of NASCAR partners and Fortune 500 corporations that included Domino’s Pizza, U.S. Army, Toyota, and The Home Depot. Her previous experience included marketing positions at Sporting News Magazine and Fox Family Channel (currently part of the ABC Network Television Family).
Nick Scandalios, Former President and Founder
was the founder and president of ASCEND and was Annie’s husband for 12 years. In creating ASCEND “Dr. Nick” worked to keep a promise to Annie to really get the word out and to radically change the way cancer is addressed in this country. He owned and operated a successful family chiropractic center in Charleston for 13 years.
